South Africa blasts President Trump over his tweets which it says ‘seeks to divide our nation and remind us of our colonial past’

The South African government has rejected a tweet by President Donald Trump about the country’s land reform policy and the “large-scale killing” of farmers saying the US president was “misinformed”.

President Trump on Wednesday said he directed Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to “closely study the South Africa land and farm seizures and expropriations and the large scale killing of farmers. “South African Government is now seizing land from white farmers’.

Responding to the tweet, President Cyril Ramaphosa’s spokeswoman Khusela Diko said “the presidency has noted Trump’s tweet, which is misinformed in our view. South Africa totally rejects this narrow perception which only seeks to divide our nation and reminds us of our colonial past’.
